Green Monster Movement

By the title of this page you might be thinking I’m referring to the wall in Fenway Park. Sorry to disappoint, but I am not. Nor am I referring to the scary thing that lies under the bed.

I am referring to the delicious drink I am currently obsessed with. Now, before you click away because you are disgusted with the idea that I drink something called a green monster, let me explain.

On twitterville, I have kept hearing mentions of this shake/smoothie thing called a green monster. Eventually, I got curious and decided to ask a friend what on earth it was. So she sent me the link to a site that has changed my life (OK maybe I’m being a tad dramatic here).

I browsed the site and dubiously decided to try this green drink out. I had all the ingredients already, so I really did not have much to lose. I was very apprehensive and my expectations were quite low because (and I am not proud to admit this), I tend to judge food by its appearance and nothing looks less appealing than a green drink. But I am also experimental and I will try everything ONCE. And hey, if I didn’t like it, I’m sure my dog would devour it.

So here’s the list of ingredients in the order I put them into the blender-
1 Tbsp of flax seeds

1 cup of almond milk
1 banana
1 cup of cooked spinach (just put 2 cups of spinach into a bowl with water and microwave for 5 minutes)

Once everything was blended, I added enough ice into the blender to make the drink cold. Blended the ice, poured it into a cup, took a deep breath, and took a sip.

And… I LOVED IT!! You can’t taste the spinach at all and calorie per calorie, spinach provides more nutrients than any other food on this planet. It has tons of vitamins and is one of the best sources of vitamin K. Combined with the greatness of banana and the flax, this drink is a powerhouse! I made it at 7am and it kept me full until noon.

The next day I decided to be even more experimental and add in-

handful of strawberries
1/8 cup of whole 7 grains
1 Tbsp of chunky peanut butter.

I love the chewyness of the grains and the pb. This is such an addicting drink I ended up making it everyday for the entire week! There are so many things you can add; this is the place to be creative.

If you are interested in trying an assortment of different recipes for green monsters, or are just curious and want to find out more about the creator, Angela, here is the link — Green Monster Movement

I guess the lesson to be learned here (because everything tends to be a life lesson right?), never judge a book by its cover. These things are just fantastic. Have you tried it yet?

Namaste.

Hmm, I've been on the fence with shakes as I've been trying not to drink my calories. Although, it sounds like this would be very low calorie, very low Weight Watchers point values (I'm following the Weight Watchers plan). . .I may give it a try for a special treat!

My breakfast almost every morning is strawberries, banana, greek yogurt, spinach (uncooked), honey – put in blender and enjoy. It's delish and full of goodness.

I tried spinach in my smoothies a while ago, and really liked it! I was sure it would be gross as well!! =) I used raw spinach, and I couldn't taste that, either! Delicious!

Hi there, I have never heard of the Angela lady, but have heard of Green Smoothies. This one lady has been making them for over 30 years. They are awesome, aren't they?I use raw spinach and greens instead of cooked because they have more nutrients and enzymes that way. There are so many variations you can make. I use almond milk,  but more often than not I use orange juice. Since you love it so much, figured I would throw out there another variation for you since they definitely are amazing at giving energy etc. Good for you for trying it! Rock on!So the one I do is about a cup of orange juice, 1 banana, frozen fruit like mango and pineapple and blend that up. IT is so delicious like that but then I add in a ton of raw spinach or any dark green and blend. Throw in a dash or two of cinnamon as well. You can also throw in hemp seeds or flax seeds. Whatever your heart desires. Have a glorious day. Love and light to you dear one.
