Beaming Diidhiti Series #2 – Faern Works

Hello all! Today is Tuesday and Tuesday means Beaming Diidhiti Day =) For those of you who do not know about this series I recommend you click here and find out more first! But if you are too anxious to read this post (I would be too if I were you!) I will say that Beaming Diidhiti (which means inspiration in Sanskrit) is a pet project between Faern from Faern Works, Tara from Imagine Balance and I. You can check out MY post on Tara’s blog here.

Today I have the pleasure to present to you Faern (you can also find her button on the right of this blog!) Faern is a yogi, photographer AND a yogi photographer in the San Fransisco area and her pictures are SO drool worthy. We clicked instantly and I have had so much fun working with her and Tara on this series. Here is her answer to the question of inspiration and yoga -

When I first started working on this writing project I considered many different ways of expressing what it means to get on the yoga mat and what it means to use what you learn there, off the mat. Then it occurred to me- when most people read the term ‘off the mat’ or ‘take your yoga off the mat’ they immediately think of other places that physical yoga asana can be practiced without a mat beneath their feet. The average person that does not practice yoga asana may not even hear the rest of that statement after the word ‘yoga’ because of whatever pre-conceived notion they have- and this made me wonder- what other way can that statement be made?

For me, what this means is widespread (as I mentioned in my intro to ‘Beaming diidhiti’ here). What it doesn’t mean is that I’m hanging out in some asana next to the coffee table while you are all having a glass of wine- ok, that will happen- but that is not what I mean when I refer to ‘taking yoga off the mat’. To be inspired to take my yoga off the mat is like looking for a piece of hay in a needle stack- it’s the most basic, strait forward way I have come across (yes, I have tried various ways) to incorporate health and life.

Which brings me to my point-What in my yoga asana practice inspires me to take my learning’s into the world? The installation of the understanding that life is actually worth living as well as the integration and connection of the root of human being and relationship.

What I address on the mat, directly feeds that which happens in life off the mat, with consistency.
