This week’s Chakra Friday will focus on the second chakra – water. Now I know what you are thinking – T it’s Saturday. I know I know. But this week has just been CRAZY hectic at work and I have not had time to write this up. Plus, when I did have time, nothing came to me. I just stared at the computer trying to figure out how this chakra affects me. And I got nothing. SO sorry for the delay. Without further ado, let’s continue the education of chakras shall we?In Sanskrit, the water chakra is called svadhisthana and it is located in the lower abdomen region. If you are not familiar with this series, click here to read my first Chakra Friday post. Or if you want to read about the first chakra before this one, click here.
Now the water chakra is represented by the color orange and it’s main role is in emotions. Feeling. Change. Flow. Sexuality. A very potent chakra! While the first chakra was focused on rooting the body, the introduction to this lotus brings a certain sense of duality. We now learn to juggle the yin and yang of the first two chakras. Whereas the first is yang, masculine, the second is yin, feminine, receptive, and emotional. This very sexual chakra is also where you find your desire and motivation to move and change.

The water chakra also deals with clairsentience, socialization, nurturance and sex. This is where the pleasure principle takes full reigns and the body learns the balance between pleasure and pain. As Anodea Judith puts it
“Through the attainment of a desire we find satisfaction and free ourselves from need. IF we fail to achieve satisfaction we can then hopefully, let go of the desire as being unsatisfactory and move on to something else. It is not in desire itself that we find ourselves trapped. It is rather the repression of desires that put us at cross purposes to ourselves” (Wheels of Life 124).
Unlike last week where I had a pretty strong resonance with the chakra, this week I was not very connected to the water lotus. Maybe it’s because I spend a lot of my time repressing this chakra. I’m going to be honest here, if you haven’t caught on yet I tend to lean on the emotional side. Not only am I a pretty sensitive gal but I also know that if I allowed my desires to take over my life, it would in a heartbeat. For me, this chakra is too much at times and so I try not to think about it when I can.
Yoga poses for this chakra includes
- Setu Bandha Sarvangasana (Bridge pose)
- Urdhva Dhanusarana (Wheel pose)
- Camatkarasana (Wild Thing)
Namaste.
