| ringing in 2010 in Times Square |
In case you missed it, I blogged about the conclusion of my 25 Days of Christmas Yogathon over at my studio’s blog. Go check it out!
I love this time of the year because it asks us to reflect on what we’ve have accomplished and what we look to accomplish in the year to come.
Compared to 2010, 2011 was a pretty lame year. In 2010 I traveled over 10 countries, got a job, bought a car, started my blog, etc etc. However, I gotta admit, despite the quietness of 2011, it was a pretty awesome year in terms of personal growth.
In 2011 -
- Went through yoga teacher training
- Attended the NYC Yoga Journal conference and Krishna Das at Yogaville
- Fell in love with some rockin yoginis; MT, MB, Loo and Crystal to name a few
- Moved… twice
- Started volunteering at my studio, and now I’m a staff, a teacher, and their social media girl
- Transformed every single relationship I had, some for the worse, many for the better
- Continued my blogging and wrote in awesome sites like YogaDork and Elephant Journal
- Went to NYC more times than I can count and fell in love with the city that never sleeps
- Deepened my Buddhist studies with teachers like Tara Brach, Thich Naht Hanh, and Pema Chodron
- Pretty much maintained the same weight. It may not be my ideal weight but at least I haven’t gained more
- Didn’t suffer through any MAJOR physical injury, did not experience any deaths of friends or family, did not get into any accident, etc
- Gave up some pretty difficult habits such as chewing gum (I was addicted!) and drinking soda
- Stopped eating meat
- And lastly, fell head over heels in love with yoga.
What a year!!
Setting my gaze forward, I want to outline a few intentions for 2012. I wrote around this time last year how I do not believe in New Year’s resolution because it’s using an arbitrary time to completely change your life and we ALL know they never last. Setting an intention is different because it’s not a complete transformation on Day One. Rather, it asks what you can start doing now to shape your life. Every moment is a moment of choice.
So for 2012 I would like to -
- Teach yoga consistently twice a week
- Travel out of the country
- Work up to maintain a 30 minute a day meditation practice
- Weigh somewhere in the 130′s
- Have a new job that makes me feel fulfilled. and pays better.
- Work on my yoga binds as well as controlled handstand
But above all, I want to live fiercely. What does that mean? Well, I want to lighten up some. Not think so much. Have less fear. TRUST that there is always better things coming. Although it’s necessary to live in the moment, it’s only human to look back and gaze forward. Rather than lament at the past and worry about the future, however, notice how far you’ve come, and be excited that there is a whole wide VAST ocean of time ahead of you. Use it wisely!
Namaste.

I need to work on some resolutions. Dang. I guess I didn't realize that you were Buddhist. I'm looking to deepen a spiritual practice this year. I think I'll start with that.
